Start with the utility that serves your address
The Village of Lisle buys Lake Michigan water from the DuPage Water Commission. Illinois American Water, however, serves the Oakview neighborhood, as the Lisle water page explains. Which one answers a street-side leak depends on where you live.
| Where the water problem is | Who owns the fix | Our role |
|---|---|---|
| Bubbling or flooding in the street | Your water utility, village or Illinois American Water in Oakview | We cannot touch the public main. Report it, then we handle your side |
| Leak between the street and your meter or house | Confirm with your utility first | We locate and repair the line once ownership is clear |
| Wet drywall, stain or hissing inside | You | Detect, open the wall only where needed, repair |
| Sewer backup | Village Public Works checks the public line | We clear and camera your own line |
Village Hall is at 925 Burlington Avenue. Public Works runs both sanitary and storm sewers.
Leaks you cannot see
A leak that hides inside a wall or under a slab rarely announces itself. The clues are quieter. Your water bill climbs, the meter spins with every tap closed, or a patch of floor feels warm underfoot.
Our leak detection work uses acoustic listening, pressure tests and moisture meters, so we open the smallest hole that proves the cause. For a break in the line from the street, a water line repair may follow.
- Shut every fixture and watch the meter dial for movement
- Check the ceiling below bathrooms for stains or soft spots
- Listen near the water heater and main for a hiss
- Photograph stains with the date so you can track growth
Water heaters that fail on cold mornings
No hot water, a puddle at the base, rumbling from the tank, or water that runs lukewarm and then cold. Each points somewhere different. A burned-out element or bad thermostat is a repair. A tank leaking from the shell is the end of its life.
With a water heater repair we test the element, thermostat, pilot or igniter and the relief valve before recommending anything. If the tank itself weeps, we price a swap instead of a repair that will not last. Ask the Village whether your swap needs a permit, since the rule is not published in a way we can quote.
Water emergencies in Lisle that cannot wait
Shut off the main if water is pouring from a pipe, ceiling or heater. Flip off the water heater if the tank is leaking. Stay away from wet outlets and fixtures near the water, and keep children and pets out of the room.
Call our emergency line and tell us what you shut off. We answer any hour.
What to do before our plumber gets there
These steps limit damage while the line connects.
Locate the right main
Your shutoff is usually where the water line enters the house, by the meter. Because two utilities serve Lisle, the meter itself may look different. Close the valve on your side of it.
Stop fixtures
Do not run taps, flush, or start the washer while we diagnose. Water in the pipes can keep leaking.
Protect electrics
Keep clear of any wet area that touches outlets, a breaker panel or a furnace. Never stand in water to reach a switch.
Call 24/7
Tell dispatch which utility serves you and where the water is. We bring the right gear for the first visit.
Flood-prone pockets and what they mean for you
The village has run flood projects for structural flooding, yard flooding and nuisance drainage at Village Center North and South and on Scarlet Oak Lane. A DuPage County page also names flood pump stations on the East Branch of the DuPage River between Lacey and Burlington Avenues.
If you live near those areas, a basement that floods may be a drainage issue instead of a plumbing leak. Ask Public Works what has been done on your street, then let us check your sump pump and floor drain so you know which side of the wall the water came from.
Campuses, preserves and bigger buildings
Lisle is home to The Morton Arboretum on Illinois Route 53 and Benedictine University on College Road. Smaller commercial buildings and rental properties nearby face the same leaks as a house. We cannot speak to arrangements those institutions have in place, but we do take calls from property managers.
If you manage space in Lisle, ask us about commercial plumbing work. Naperville and Bolingbrook are on our service map too.

Questions we hear
Lisle uses one ZIP code, 60532, and we cover all of it. That includes the Village Center, the Oakview neighborhood, the area around Benedictine University on College Road and the streets near The Morton Arboretum on Route 53.
Yes. The line is open 24/7 for leaks, heater failures and burst pipes. Shut off the water and call.
Check your bill or ask the village. Oakview is served by Illinois American Water, and the rest by the village. Telling dispatch helps us route the call.
Often yes. Acoustic listening and moisture readings narrow the spot first, and we open only that section.
A leak from a fitting or valve can be repaired. A leak from the tank shell cannot, so replacement is the honest answer.
Not something we can state. Ask the village building staff before you schedule a water heater swap.
Yes. We handle single units and shared lines for property managers.
If the leak is in the ground, a burst pipe repair crew can reach it after it is located.
Lisle on the map
